Un-learning Bauhaus: Material Lessons
March 2019

Open Studio with Alumni and Students from Manchester School of Art, Judith Winter (Curator) in association with Andrew Lacon (Sculpture). Studio organised by Andrew Hamilton (Furniture Designer).

An ‘open studio’ that explores the Bauhaus building as a curriculum. At its heart, the ethos of un-learning and the principle that knowledge is not created through preformed concepts and theories, but grows from our practical and observational engagement with the world around us. Echoing the principles of the Vorkurs (preliminary course), where ‘experimentation means learning through experience.’ (Albers, 1941), the studio is not be pre-determined, but triggered through material experimentation and the dynamics of the group.

Presented as part of Bauhaus, Dessau centenary Festival School Fundamental, March 2019.
